Why I love my hubby
As a child, soda and candy were taboo items in the houses of my parents and Marc’s. As a result, our house is always stocked with about 5 different kinds of candy and 4 kinds of soda. There’s also always either ice cream or some sort of baked good to boot. We both have admitted that whenever we prepare a soda or eat a piece of candy — especially at breakfast — the five-year-old within does a jaunty little happy dance.
So far, we’ve always lived within a two-minute drive from a Quik Trip. And this, my friends, is where the five-year-old trapped in Lisa’s body is secretly unleashed. Because I LOVE fountain soda. But not just any concoction will due. I love me a “Coke cocktail.” Basically this is 3/4 Diet Coke and 1/4 regular mixed in. (Still sweet but not all of the calories.) But lately I’ve favored a “Dew-ster cocktail”. This is 3/4 diet Mountain Dew with 1/4 Rooster Booster. Mmmmmm. Marc is very, very good at making my cocktails. I’ve often told him that bringing me a cocktail in the morning is better than sending me roses. And yes, I am serious.
When he hands it to me I often ask, “Did you make it with love?” And sometimes he’ll say, “No I made it with contempt.” And I’ll answer, “So that’s why its so tart.”
But more often, when I ask that silly question he’ll shoot me a look of mocked sheepishness and say, “Why yes….” And I’ll take a sip and say, “Taste alittle salty. You made it with the wrong love this time! Stop putting your penis in my damn soda.”
And then we laugh. This is why I love my hubby. Not only because he brings me sodas sometimes but we “get” each other’s sense of humor.
Lowbrow? Indeed. But we’ve never pretended to be anything more.

Oh, I’m SO about the fountain Pepsi when I get pizza. I’m always a Coke drinker, but there’s something about a gooey slice of hot-from-the-oven New York pizza that demands a fountain Pepsi. My cocktail though, would be the Arnold Palmer: Half iced tea (unsweetened) and half lemonade. It’s like adding sugar and lemon to an iced tea, really, and cutting the caffeine in half.
Your husband sounds awesome. When you don’t laugh together is when it’s all over.

Oooooh I love the half and half tea/lemonade too.
And I am all for juvenile humor. I mean, we can’t have the deep conversations every damn day. And penises make soda salty, it’s true.

I’m a big fan of the ‘Coke Cocktail.’
That way, you get the sugar AND the chemicals all in one drink.
I’m also dying to try the new Coke thing (Coke Blak?) that has coffee syrup in it. Strange, but enticing…

I used to beg my mom to take us to Fudruckers just so I could get at the fountain sodas. My personal coctail was 3/4 orange soda, 1/4 sprite, and a splash of coke. It tasted oddly like a Long Island Iced Tea (which, probably not coincidentally, is my favorite alcoholic drink).

LOL.

Shit, that’s not lowbrow in my world! In my husband’s family, on the other hand….
Fortunately, he married me!

Isn’t it great to have a man who completely understands your jokes? My husband and I have a very weird sense of humor, but we crack each other up all the time.

Oh, I loved this post! Although I’ve only been married a little over a year, we’ve been together for 6 and it’s the laughter and sense of humor that keeps us going

I should say in my own defense that on a hot day, nothing cools you down like placing your manhood in a cold beverage.

Great post. You two sound like fun. That is what keeps a relationshp fresh.
Now you made me want to go get a soda…

Rooster Booster? I’m sorry, please enlighten? I’ve never heard of it …
And sometimes there is NOTHING in the world that I need more than a fountain pop. The can, the bottle, the 2 liter just will not do. It. Must. Be. From. The. Fountain!!!! Gahh …. I see one in my very near future.

Although I am laughing I must admit I am also seething with jealousy that either you can keep candy and soda in your house and not tear through it like a pack of wild animals (something I would do) OR you can tear through it like a pack of wild animals and not gain weight. Either way, I must hate you for a few seconds while I eat some blueberries that I wish were Oreos.

I dig me some QT soda, too! Luckily, I just saw a sign down the street that says, “Quik Trip Coming Soon.” Hooray!!!

Oh my gosh how I love soda and candy. Love it.
What is Rooster Booster? We don’t have that out here.
(oh, and I’m going to miss all the bloggers while I’m out having my baby!! Don’t forget about me!)

Rooster Booster is sort of like a soda. Very carbonated but with more “umph.” Like Jolt or Red Bull, I think.
Lisa on 21 Jan 2008 at 7:18 pm #
I just started reading you clog…hehe. You and me both about the “foutain soda”. In fact after I had my daughter…that is the one think I missed…the hop out at the QT for a good ole fountain soda. It must be a Midwestern thing.
