Tell me how you REALLY feel!
Yesterday morning, for the first time, Seth said those three little words every child says to a parent at one time or another.
“I HATE YOU.”
Frankly, I’m surprised it took him this long… He must be a late bloomer.

I was in Target the other day and a little boy was so furious at his mom because she wouldn’t get something for him that he wanted.
I said “Oh, you’re the mean mommy?”
She said a bit wearily, “Oh, yeah, I this is my day. I have been the mean mommy ALL DAY LONG.”

Don’t take it to heart. Every kids does it at some point. When my kids did it, I would tell them that weren’t allowed to disrespect me enough to hate me. It’s funny, because none of them ever said it more than that one time….

Oh he is a late bloomer. My normally adorable and loving 5 year old told me he loved his dad much more than me the other day. Nice.

I was thinking about this very topic the other day. My daughter has yet to say this because we’ve never taught her the word “hate.” But as she gets bigger and around other kids, I’m sure it will only be a matter of time before our little teen-in-training blossoms.

My youngest has never used those three little words aimed at me, usually it’s “You are the meanest mommy in the whole world.” or, my particular favorite “You just HATE me don’t you?”
Aren’t kids absolutely delightful!? It’s a good thing I love ‘em, cause some days, I’d sell them.

ahh, the joys of motherhood… although Julia has yet to say she hates me, she has told me a number of times that she “don’t like the meanest Mommy, only Daddy.” It’s like a giant hug!

One time I wrote my Dad a “hate letter” (you know, instead of a “love letter”). But I was young and not so good at spelling. So it said:
Dear Dad:
I hat you.

He thought it was so funny that he didn’t mind that I was being so mean!!

I heard that at least ten times yesterday from my little guy. He gets so pissed at me because I’ll say”Oh, that’s too bad because I really love you”. So he’ll tell me hates me more than the whole world and on and on.

The first time I heard those words - I left the room and bawled my eyes out. But I’ve never let it get to me again since. He hasn’t said that for a long time, but the last times he did, he’d say he hated me or I was the meanest mommy ever. And I’d just say…. “Oh honey, you don’t hate and I’m not the meanest mommy, you’ll decide differently soon.” No sooner than I said that I’d have a letter in my hand that would tell me he was sorry for saying that and he didn’t hate me and I was the nicest mommy.

I think every kid comes up with that sooner or later. PRoblem is, my first one never has said it which set an unrealistic expectation for the ones to follow. When number two said it I was appalled. Once #3 and #4 did it I figured it was par for the course.

I think moms should get a special badge the first time this happens, or something.
(Mine still hasn’t said it, but I’m betting when he says it, it will be because I told him to turn off the computer and go play outside.)

i honestly remember the first time I used that phrase. My mom tells me that the incident I remember is infact that first time I uttered those words. I said it to my great grandmother. It made her cry and cry. After that I was a teenager before I said it again. I remember not understanding why it hurt her so bad. Then mom explained to me what I had said and I cried for a while. I was all of 5 when it happend. To this day its a phrase I try not to use.

Oh no! Good thing you know it isn’t true! I think the first time I ever said that to my mother was in my teens. And I was just trying it out, to see what would happen. Answer: Nothing. No response. I don’t think I ever said it again.

I’ve been hanging out with my 6-month-old goddaughter for the last couple of days (we live in different cities) and so far she just babbles a lot (although today she made a sound that sounded a lot like ‘hi’ - but I think it was an accident.) I’m sure she’ll say it to me some day (”I hate you”, I mean, not “hi”, although she’ll probably say that, too)… heck, I’m pretty sure she felt it today, when I wouldn’t let her play with her dad’s computer…

hannahs already said that to me. she told me she doesn’t like me anymore. which to me might as well been i hate you. guess they’re both late bloomers lol
