New shoes + great hair day
Ever since this past spring, “the boy” has been angling for a pair Sketchers. (What is so magical about Sketchers? No clue.) He finally got his wish a few days ago. He’s so proud of his recent “back-to-school” acquisition. He walks with a new-found spring in his step. He swears they make him run faster and kick a ball farther.
But what’s also been amusing is his new-found interested in hair care products. Tired of getting pestered over “do my hair” requests, I bought him his very own product yesterday.
While in the grocery store, Seth mulled over his choices. He asked about gels versus mousse. Once he had his choices narrowed down to three products (based on packaging, naturally), he decided to smell each brand. The manliest scent won.
We got home and he raced upstairs with the mousse and emerged with spikey hair and a very proud smile.
Seth learned a valuable life lesson - that a favorite pair of shoes and great hair day can make you feel like you can conquer the world.
The support I received after this post was amazing. (Thankfully, the bad news turned into good news.) But I wanted to thank everyone who took time to read the post and comment. So I’ll be thanking a group of people as a part of each post until I’ve thanked everyone.
So thanks to: Beth D, A Bun’s Life, Snowberry Lane, Its All For the Best, Parachuting Without a Net, Wicked Auntie (who is wicked in that cool way) Kathie, Mommy’s Martini, Rancid Raves, My Second Journal, Blonde Mom Blog, and Moto Mom.

I love it when boys figure out how to “be cute”.

I’ve always thought a nice purse, good haircut, and great shoes can make anyone feel splendid!

I need to be reminded of this very important life lesson from time to time, thanks Seth!

Silly rabbit, no thanks are needed! Good gravy, you have been SO supportive of me these past few years. What comes around goes around is not always a bad thing.

What is the magic in Skechers? My 5 (almost 6) year old wanted them too and when we found a pair she immediately had to wear them to preschool to show off. Her best friend showed up the same day with a nearly identical pair, they are happy as clams. That and a backpack are the only kindergarten things she has gotten excited about. Lord knows a new pair of shoes makes my day. So glad all the bad news ended up not so bad!

Oh dear lord, we’re raising a generation of metrosexuals! My 10 year old son is so excited about his new haircut.
You are obviously very loved and I’m so glad that i got to be one of the ones to celebrate the GREAT news.

You are more than welcome.
Sounds like your boy is well on his way. Great hair, great shoes equals awesomeness.

It is so true. New shoes and good hair days having me skipping through my day.
By jaelithe, August 10, 2008 @ 5:04 am
ALREADY with the hair gel? This is my future in two short years?
That’s it. I’m putting bricks on my kid’s head so he can’t grow up anymore.
By Lily, August 10, 2008 @ 10:16 am
Hey girls, where did you buy the sketchers from?
By Jill (CDJ), August 10, 2008 @ 5:44 pm
I think it’s the Skechers commercials that get them. My three year old runs around the house talking about something related to Skechers (I can’t quite understand exactly what he’s trying to say) and I’ve noticed Nickelodeon runs a lot of Skechers ads. Evil marketing geniuses!

When I was Seth’s age, I wanted to sleep in my new shoes. I know just how he feels. And as for the product, I could only wish that my son would do something with his hair!!
Your Seth is adorable. Please give him big hugs from me!!
I think you need some new shoes and treat yourself to a day in a spa. You deserve a day of luxury after all you’ve been through!! Please spoil yourself and celebrate each day as if it were your birthday!! Without the getting older part, of course!!
Hugs and love, T

Skechers last a long time. Matthew wore one pair for 2 years and they still looked good! They clean up nicely and don’t break down as quickly. They’re the cool thing to wear.
You didn’t have to link back, but that was nice. Lots of love!

Manly mousse. I was not aware that such a thing existed. I learned something today!
By Jakki, August 11, 2008 @ 1:28 pm
I have to say that i love skechers…since our dress down days at work do not include tennis/athletic shoes, sometimes these can ‘pass’….
I think I about passed out when my youngest started wanting the colognes and stuff. I dont know where I got the idea he was going to always be happy being grungy…
By mp, August 11, 2008 @ 9:22 pm
You still didn’t let me do any laundry or anything.. but you are welcome…even though thanks aren’t necessary for being a friend. xoxo
The 9 year old came home smelling like The Big Kahuna from 1988… his friends older brother had a bottle of that AXE shit.. OMG…
He also calls it “product”.. He asked if I would put the right amount of “product” in his hair. WTF

Good shoes + good gel = an adorable little metrosexual in the making.

By Kim, August 15, 2008 @ 6:47 pm
No need for thanks, that’s what we’re here for. Soooooo glad you’re going to be perfect again!
New shoes and good hair = fabulous day.
By gina, August 16, 2008 @ 5:23 am
I will learn the lesson from seth… good girly smelling mousse and my very wanted, but not yet received skechers… Umm that sounds good.
I’m just glad that my boys are still in the stage where a puppet will make their day happy; but with the Kid’s long curls… i will surely need lots of manly mousse.
By sam {temptingmama}, August 18, 2008 @ 4:52 pm
It’s a great feeling to finally get something you’ve coveted for so long. Seth must have been beside himself!
LOL @ the mousse - we use the wax on Carter sometimes (he’s only 3) but it works great for re-styling and it’s not hard… but can be a BIG mess if you use too much!
