The Star Wars obsession continues…

My son and I had this conversation this past week.

Me: Hey Seth, Let’s watch Sound of Music.
Seth: Does it have robots?
Me: No. It’s about some mischievous kids and their nanny.
Seth: Does it have light sabers?
Me: No. But it’s a cute movie. Someone plays the guitar. Give it a chance.
Seth: Why doesn’t it have light sabers? Or robots?
Me: Watch it for 10 minutes. You might like it.
Seth: Can I pretend it has light sabers in it?
Me: Sigh… Sure. Why not. I just want to sit down for a minute. I’m tired and I don’t watch to watch Star Wars. Let’s just try something different. There’s a puppet show.
Seth: Are there bad guy puppets?
Me: I don’t think so…
Seth: Can I pretend one of the puppets is really a bad guy and know one knows but me?
Me: Works for me. Let’s sit down.
Seth: We’ll name the bad guy puppet Darth Vader. K?
Sigh….

The support I received after this post was amazing. (Thankfully, the scary ordeal is no longer “scary” nor an “ordeal”.) But I wanted to thank everyone who took time to read the post and comment. So I’ll be thanking a group of people as a part of each post until I’ve thanked everyone.

So thanks to: Ibdawnk, Lisa Marie Mary, Lara, Keri, Schmee, Dana, Lisa S. Kelly of West Coast Girlie Blather, Three Under Two, Melanie, Gwendomama, Carol, Stefania, Laura from the Fringe, Kelley, Liz and Manager Mom.

    Oh gosh!

We have a six-year old and we have this conversation about once a week.

My son loves Star Wars too! It’s all about the light saber, ya know. We even did his room in Star Wars this summer. There are pictures of it somewhere in my summer month archives. Right now he is really, really into Indiana Jones. That is his latest obsession. Sounds like our boys would get along GREAT!

As I read this posting, my husband and two kids are glued to the TV watching The Wizard of Oz. Some movies are just great to watch on a cold Saturday night.

I think, that with just a little tweaking, we can help Seth out by turning “Sound of Music” into “Star Wars.”

For instance: We give a lightsaber to those Nazi guys who are hunting down the von Trapps in the abbey, and also one to the Captain, who wields a mean beam and kicks SS butt while we hear the children sing “So long, farewell” in the background.

Just before they leave, the Mother Superior says to Maria, “May the force be with you.”

Obsession is right. Maybe he’ll name the goat puppet Darth Vaaaaader!

Your Seth and my stepson Spiderman must be related. If it doesn’t have Star Wars, superheroes, or Pokemon, he’s just not that interested!

Yes, Maria vs. Darth Vader is a tough sell. With three boys, you better believe I hear ya!

LOL…tooo cute. I miss those kinds of cute conversations. Although they are probably tiring to you and all who have to have them but to me, several years later they are SO cute and adorable.

Too funny! BTW…did he like Sound of Music?

  11. raisingz on November 19th, 2008 8:24 pm

That is hysterical! Did he like the movie???

  12. L.A. Daddy on November 21st, 2008 9:15 pm

Sounds like a good reason not to show LA Toddler Star Wars. It’s one of those geeky thing that all dads (and some moms) want to do - show them the cool flicks they grew up on. And they usually want to do it while the child is 1 year old.

But… waiting is best. I can wait a little longer. At least till we’ve watched Sound of Music together (I’ve never seen it.)

My husband’s name is Peter Mayhew…which the name of the guy who played Chewbacca…my kids LIVE to watch the credits to see Daddy’s name! He had them convinced for years that he actually WAS in Star Wars.

This is way too funny. I’ve never watched this movie, so I have no idea who the characters are, but your son is too cute & funny. So yeah, did he like Sound of Music?

  15. Heather Lessiter on December 1st, 2008 3:53 am

I feel your frustration, sister! Every other word out of Steven’s mouth is Star Wars. He did like The Sound of Music, but begged me to quit “singing every soooong”. He also loved The wizard of Oz and drove me crazy wanting to watch it again and again. Shoulda bouthg him that DVD/VCR combo instead of just the DVD for his room. Then he could watch it 20 times in there instead of in my living room. :o)
